Sustainability

Our mission is to power a more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable future for everyone. We enable the expansion of renewable energy. Our sites support a cleaner, more secure energy system and put us on the path to more affordable energy and economic growth.

Our sustainability approach

At Harmony Energy, we are committed to delivering projects sustainably and responsibly. Our sustainability approach was developed through a thorough materiality assessment and stakeholder engagement process. It is underpinned by our stakeholders’ needs and our aim to reduce our impact on the planet. It provides a framework to measure, manage and report on our priority areas of climate, nature and people for the next three years across our operations and supply chain.

The Harmony Energy Board of Directors has ultimate responsibility for setting our sustainability approach, commitments and policies. Our Sustainability Committee oversees, monitors and reviews our performance and the Group Sustainability Team, led by the Head of Sustainability, is responsible for integrating our sustainability approach into key business areas and measuring, monitoring and reporting on sustainability performance.

Our sustainability focus areas

For us, sustainability is about operating responsibly: minimising negative impacts and delivering positive outcomes in our focus areas of climate, nature and people.

Climate

We can make a valuable contribution to fighting climate change through our projects as they lower our reliance on fossil fuels for energy.

Our renewable energy generation projects produce cleaner energy that can help lower grid emissions, whilst our battery energy storage projects also contribute to climate action by storing and enabling the integration of more electricity from renewable sources into the electricity grid.

We also take responsibility for our own greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, ranging from our people and offices, all the way through to our supply chain. We aim to minimise our impact across the Harmony Energy Group.

Nature

We want to protect the natural environment we all depend on and, where possible, enhance it so we leave it in a better place than we found it.

Our projects have an impact on nature, and it is important that we enhance and restore biodiversity in and around all of our projects, and at a minimum, in line with legal requirements. This includes incorporating nature and biodiversity considerations at each stage of a project’s lifecycle.

We also work to reduce our reliance on water and the materials used in renewable energy generation and storage projects, whilst minimising waste and using resources as efficiently and responsibly as possible.

People

The energy transition should deliver positive outcomes for everyone, including workers and communities, whilst ensuring a fair and just transition.

We do not tolerate human rights abuses and work to embed traceability and transparency in our supply chain. Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets minimum standards that suppliers are expected to uphold. See how we are strengthening traceability in our battery projects.

We provide community funds to support causes that make a difference in the communities around our sites. And we promote local employment and job opportunities through local suppliers and employees.
