It’s been a pleasure supporting The Brownlee Foundation Mini-Triathlon Events and experiencing its incredible impact on children.

The mass participation events aim to inspire children from all backgrounds to enjoy sport and physical activity, encouraging them to lead active lifestyles and benefit from the opportunities sport provides.

For some children, it was their first chance to ride a bike or go in a swimming pool; for others, it reinforced their love of sport by being able to participate in the three disciplines.

Harmony Energy was delighted to support the events and The Brownlee Foundation – a charity set up by multi Olympic medal-winning triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee to inspire and encourage children to participate actively and regularly in physical activity and sport.

Friday marked a special occasion for the foundation as it welcomed its 50,000th junior triathlete. Children ran and cycled around the athletics track at the city’s South Leeds Stadium and swam a few lengths next door at the John Charles Aquatics Centre to complete the major milestone.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Jonny said: “I’m incredibly proud to have our 50,000th child cross the finish line.

“It wouldn’t happen without the incredible work of volunteers, sponsors and those people who put their time in on the event days themselves.”

Posting on his LinkedIn, Alistair said: “Thank you to our amazing people, trustees and volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy, and expertise to make our events possible. Your commitment to fostering a love for sport and nurturing the next generation of triathletes is commendable. Without your selfless efforts, we would not have been able to reach this milestone.

“I would also like to thank the partners, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in driving the Foundation forward. Your belief in our vision and your generosity have allowed us to provide sports opportunities for 50,000 children. Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of these young triathletes.”

After reaching 50,000 participants, BBC Look North reported on the success of the foundation.
