The piece covers the contribution of BESS to the development of a secure, clean, homegrown energy system while delivering significant economic benefits. These include business rates for local councils, GVA (Gross Value Added, a measure of economic contribution) for the UK, and jobs and opportunities across the full project lifecycle. In addition, all our sites support local groups and charities through community funds.
This milestone was made possible by the diverse skillset of the people behind it. From our in-house planning and development teams to sustainability, finance, marketing, HR, IT, and many others, alongside close collaboration with external partners, we are proud of the depth and breadth of expertise involved in delivering outcomes like this.
With more than 1GW consented in 2025, it is clear that BESS, delivered without burden on the taxpayer, is here to stay. It will play a vital role in enabling wind and solar to grow, reducing wind curtailment, strengthening grid resilience, lowering the risk of power outages, and supporting economic growth for local councils and the wider energy system.
